The Family Operating System

Not a planner. An operating system for a household — the cadences, standards, briefs, and reviews a competent operator would install if the family were an organisation, applied with the restraint that the home is not a workplace.

What it is

Six layers. Fifteen artefacts. One core promise.

The mental load that's currently in one person's head becomes a system the whole household can run from.

The system is recognisable to anyone who has run a real operation — Standards, Cadences, Briefs, Maps, Reviews — and legible to someone who has never used the word "cadence" in their life, because every layer is defined plainly.

The six layers

Each layer answers one question.

Layer 01

Standards

The recurring SOPs of the home. Mornings, bedtimes, sick days, weekends. Written once; anyone in the household can run them.

Layer 02

Cadences

The rituals that keep the household out of crisis mode. Sunday reset, monthly money meeting, quarterly review.

Layer 03

Briefs

One-page snapshots so the non-default parent can pick up the household. The Dad Brief, the kid-care brief, the weekly brief.

Layer 04

Maps

Who currently owns what. Where the single points of failure are. What the mental load actually is — and isn’t.

Layer 05

Reviews

The improvement layer. A friction log, an incident log, a quarterly review. Things that are broken stop staying broken.

Layer 06

Mental Load Distribution

The thinking, remembering, anticipating, deciding. Tracked separately from doing because it’s the part most households leave invisible.

Implementation

Who it's for

If you operate, this is for you.

  • Operationally-minded parents in households where the mental load is uneven.
  • Households with two working parents.
  • Households with ADHD where standard planners don’t survive contact with reality.
  • Couples who want to operate as a unit, not as two parallel logistics teams.

Who it's not for

Be honest with yourself.

  • You want a planner that’s pretty more than it is useful. The visual is calm and editorial — not floral.
  • You want printable templates only with no Notion. They’re here, but they’re half the value; the Notion workspace is where the cadences live.
  • You want a programme run by someone else. The Family OS is a system, not a service.

30-day implementation

Most digital products promise a "30-day guide". This one earns it.

A week of audit, a week of rebalance, a week of standards, a week of cadence. By the end of month one, the household is running differently.

Week 1

Audit

Run the diagnostic. Pin the Mental Load Map. Identify the two artefacts that fix the highest-friction spots.

Week 2

Rebalance

The Mental Load Redistribution conversation. Renegotiate one specific recurring task using the Map.

Week 3

Standards

Write your first three SOPs from the Standards Library — almost always the morning, the bedtime, the sick day.

Week 4

Cadence

Run a Sunday Reset. Run a Monthly Money Meeting. Diary the first Quarterly Review.

FAQ

Six real questions.

Do I need Notion to use this?

No. The printable PDFs are the spine of the system; Notion is for households that already use it. The Pro tier includes the Notion workspace; the Standard tier is PDFs alone.

Will this work for an ADHD household?

Yes — the standard system is designed with neurodivergent operating constraints in mind (working memory, transitions, external brain). A separate ADHD Family OS variant is on the roadmap for households who want every page tuned.

Is this another planner?

No. It’s a system. The diagnostic, the standards, the reviews — those are what change how the household runs. There are no pages of "rate today out of 5" or "what are you grateful for". An operator wouldn’t buy that; we’re not going to ship it.

Can my partner use it without me forcing them to?

That’s the Secondary-Parent Brief. It’s a one-pager designed for someone who doesn’t want a system. They use the brief; you use the system. Both work.

What about updates?

Free quarterly updates for 12 months from purchase on the Standard tier. Lifetime updates on the Founding tier. Lifetime + 12 extra months of Canva on the Pro tier.

When does it ship?

The diagnostic is live (you can run it now). The full system is in soft-launch — sign up below and you’ll be told the day it goes live, along with the founding-tier link before anyone else.

Join the launch list

Get the Founding-tier link before anyone else.

One email when it ships. The Founding-tier link goes to this list first, before the public launch. £59 is the lowest the system will ever cost.

Or run the diagnostic first if you haven't already — it's free, no email needed.
